Crash Test Safety Instrumentation Lab Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused Technician to join our Crash Test Safety Instrumentation Lab. In this role, you will prepare, instrument, and support vehicle crash testing, ensuring test equipment and data acquisition systems are accurate, reliable, and operated safely.
A Typical Day
- Review daily test schedules, test plans, and safety requirements with the lab team.
- Install and verify sensors, wiring, and data acquisition systems for upcoming tests.
- Perform pre-test equipment checks and routine calibration.
- Support crash test execution and ensure accurate data capture.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment and instrumentation issues.
- Assist with post-test teardown, data review, and results archiving.
- Fabricate or modify fixtures and brackets as needed.
- Maintain accurate test records and prepare for upcoming tests.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and conduct standard tests within the Crash Test Safety area.
- Operate all lab equipment correctly and safely.
- Troubleshoot testing equipment to the component level.
- Install, route, and verify vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition systems for test readiness.
- Perform calibration and preventive maintenance on test equipment and sensors.
- Support crash test preparation and post-test teardown.
- Fabricate or modify parts and fixtures to match design requirements.
- Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to assigned tasks as part of broader project goals.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of closely related experience, or a related associate degree and 4+ years of experience.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and procedural compliance.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced test environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience with test equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with crash test preparation and teardown.
- Familiarity with high-voltage vehicle systems.
