Automotive Lighting Designer - Interior/Exterior

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Lighting Designer to join their Design Studio in Gothenburg. This is an exciting opportunity to help define innovative lighting solutions for future vehicles across both interior and exterior applications. You will conceive, simulate, and prototype advanced lighting concepts that combine brand identity, safety, functionality, and emotional appeal.
Working within the Technology & Innovation Department, you will collaborate closely with Exterior Design, Interior Design, CMF, UX, and Engineering teams to deliver cutting-edge lighting solutions that meet both regulatory and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver innovative lighting concepts for both interior and exterior applications, including ambient, functional, and communication lighting.
- Develop lighting solutions that align with vehicle design language and technical constraints, integrating light into surfaces, gaps, joints, and materials.
- Utilise lighting design, visualisation, simulation, and VR tools to validate light effects, integration, and feasibility.
- Create and lead engaging presentations to communicate design intent to stakeholders and suppliers.
- Validate concepts through hands-on prototyping, working internally and with suppliers to push the boundaries of lighting innovation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation from concept through production.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, Interaction Design, Lighting Design, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' professional experience in automotive lighting design or a closely related industry such as consumer products or architectural lighting.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating innovative lighting design projects.
- Proficiency in lighting design, visualisation, and simulation tools.
- Proven experience translating creative concepts into feasible and manufacturable solutions in collaboration with engineering teams and suppliers.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate design intent.
- Hands-on prototyping mindset with knowledge of electrical and electronic fundamentals and rapid prototyping techniques.
- Understanding of automotive lighting regulations and industry constraints is advantageous.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Additional Information
- The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, with an office-first working environment and some flexibility for remote working.
- International travel may be required, including approximately 2 to 3 trips to China per year.
