Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer – Structural Chassis Components - Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our clients engineering team and support the development of new structural chassis components for the common TRATON platform. This role combines hands-on CAD design work with project planning, validation activities, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality product development and timely delivery.

You will play a key role throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from concept design to implementation, while working closely with internal stakeholders, customers, testing teams, and simulation engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop structural chassis components for the TRATON platform.
• Create and maintain 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CATIA V5.
• Develop components including:
  • Brackets
  • Frame components
  • Cross members
  • Cast parts
  • Forged parts
• Perform engineering calculations to support design decisions.
• Establish, coordinate, and follow up on testing and validation plans.
• Support simulation activities where required.
• Investigate and resolve field quality issues.
• Collaborate with internal customers and cross-functional teams.
• Independently drive assigned tasks from design through implementation and release.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in product development and design engineering.
• Experience within the automotive industry.
• Previous experience working within TRATON.
• Hands-on experience with:
  • OAS
  • TestIT
  • FRAS
  • TTR
• Strong CATIA V5 experience.
• Experience producing and maintaining manufacturing drawings.
• Proven knowledge of GD&T and tolerance chain analysis.
• Experience designing structural mechanical components.

Design Experience Required

• Steel components
• Cast components
• Forged components
• Brackets and other structural chassis parts

Technical Skills

Essential

• CATIA V5
• Mechanical product development processes
• Engineering calculations for component design
• GD&T and tolerance management
• Structural chassis component design

Desirable

• Experience with 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)

Language Requirements

• Fluent English (written and spoken)
